In accordance with paragraph 6 of the Rules for Documenting the Population of the Republic of Kazakhstan, an identity card of a citizen of the Republic of Kazakhstan is issued to citizens from the age of 16. According to paragraph 1 of the said Rules, citizens of the Republic of Kazakhstan, regardless of their place of residence, must have identity documents.

According to paragraph 6 of the Rules for documenting the population of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the identity card is valid only on the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The identity card of a citizen of the Republic of Kazakhstan is issued for a period of 10 years (Clause 6 of the Rules for documenting the population of the Republic of Kazakhstan). Previously issued certificates are considered valid until the expiration of the period of validity specified in them.
